WeSendit Media AG is embarking on the future with new leadership, fresh energy, and a clear vision. At the beginning of October, the company was acquired by two Swiss investors: apfeleins.group AG and 4 element Investments AG.
This change also marks the end of an important chapter in the company’s history. Jens Herbst, former Chairman of the Board of Directors and former CEO, is stepping down and handing over the reins to a newly formed management team.
Christian Busse, who has already served as a member of the Board of Directors at WeSendit in recent years, will take over as Chairman of the Board. He will be supported by Dimitri Tirez, the original founder of WeSendit, who is returning as a member of the Board of Directors and shareholder. Together with new partners, including investor Marc Hillen, who brings valuable expertise in branding and brand strategy, a strong management team is being formed that will strategically realign WeSendit and develop it further in a sustainable manner.
The return of the founder
Dimitri Tirez originally founded WeSendit as part of his master’s thesis at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). His idea was visionary: to create a solution that would allow large amounts of data to be transferred faster, more securely, and more independently than with existing platforms, and free of charge.
This academic vision gave rise to a real product in 2013, which quickly gained international attention. With a clear focus on data protection, speed, and user-friendliness, WeSendit became one of the first Swiss platforms to combine file transfer with the highest security standards.
In the years that followed, WeSendit evolved from a pure data transfer service to an innovative provider of decentralized, secure data management. This positioned the company at the interface between classic cloud technology and the new Web3 world.
With the return of Dimitri Tirez, the circle is now complete. Together with apfeleins.group AG, of which he is a partner, he wants to transform the core values with which WeSendit once began into a modern, future-oriented form.
“WeSendit was a Swiss quality product from the very beginning,” says Tirez. “Today, it’s time to carry our DNA – security, precision, and independence – into the era of decentralized Web3. We’re not just building a platform, we’re creating a sustainable data ecosystem.”
A new chapter under Swiss leadership
In addition to Tirez’s return and the takeover by the two Swiss investors, there has also been a change in management. Reto Massalongo took over as CEO in the summer. He stands for a clear line and long-term thinking.
Massalongo explains: “We have to separate the wheat from the chaff. The focus now is on technology. On what really makes WeSendit special. Not on short-term trends, but on sustainable innovation.”
Christian Busse, the new Chairman of the Board of Directors, also emphasizes the importance of this phase: “WeSendit stands for quality, trust, and vision. We want to further strengthen the Swiss values on which the company was founded and position the WeSendit brand globally as synonymous with secure and decentralized data management.”
In this context, the first strategic steps will become visible in the coming days. These include the delisting of the WSI token on selected platforms in order to place greater emphasis on the technological benefits of the network and the further development of the node system. The aim is to refocus on the new core of the project, namely decentralized data management.
WeSendit 3.0 – Swissness, security, and community
With its new structure, WeSendit will strengthen its values in a targeted manner. Swissness, security, precision, and trust will remain the foundation on which the company grows. At the same time, the community will be more closely involved in development than before.
The network of node operators, token holders, and long-standing supporters is at the heart of WeSendit. Without this decentralized structure and the dedicated community, the vision of secure, independent data management would be inconceivable.
Outlook – the future of WeSendit
WeSendit is now at a decisive turning point. It is transitioning from a successful Swiss technology project to a leading international player in the field of decentralized data services.
Further measures to strengthen the ecosystem are already in preparation. One principle remains unchanged: the community will always be informed first.
WeSendit 3.0 stands for a future in which data management is not only efficient and secure, but also free, independent, and supported by the users themselves.
